Limiting beliefs, whether you realize it or not, have a profound effect on our lives. They can affect your life in a multitude of ways, and none of those ways are particularly good. When you can let go of your limiting beliefs, you will actually start changing the physical structure of your brain. This change allows you to begin living the life that you’ve always wanted. Here are three ways that your limiting beliefs are holding you back from living the life you desire.
Limiting Beliefs Taint Your Experience of Living
You’ll naturally attempt far fewer things over the course of your life when you are constricted by limiting beliefs. For example, if you believe that roller coasters are dangerous, you will probably never ride one and you’d miss out on the thrill that so many others have experienced. If you believe all online businesses are scams then you will miss out on a potential income stream for yourself. If you believe that investing is too risky then you will never invest, leaving money on the table. No matter how great your life is at this moment, you’re holding onto beliefs that are stopping you from experiencing life to the fullest.
Limiting Beliefs Make You inefficient
The limiting beliefs that we are holding onto may cause us to find an utilize alternate paths. If we believe that the popular route won’t work, we’ll waste time following a less direct way to work. You may have dreamed of being a teacher but believe teachers don’t earn enough, so you do everything but teach. You will naturally ignore all of the evidence and support that shows otherwise. Save yourself the trouble. Deal with the beliefs that are holding you back instead of giving up on what you really want in the world.
Limiting Beliefs Can Cause You to Unintentionally Harm Others
Your beliefs are more like a virus and less like math. They are more likely to be caught than to be taught.
It’s a terrible analogy – I know, but it gets the point across!
Even if you have the best of intentions, you can easily and involuntarily infect others with your limiting beliefs. The limiting beliefs that you pass onto others then affect them and anyone they potentially pass them on to. You need to take some time and consider who you are infecting with your limiting beliefs and how those beliefs are affecting them and their own potential to live their best life. This is especially important to consider if you have children. Don’t force them to see things only through your lens. Open-mindedness is a gift!
Limiting beliefs can be incredibly destructive and will always keep you from achieving the life that you truly desire. If you want to change your life you need to start by identify your limiting beliefs and taking the necessary steps to start changing them.
